Car Misfortunes

Car Misfortunes

About ten years ago, my Prius was stolen, so I bought a red Vitz. But recently, the paint has started peeling. The roof, the body—various parts are flaking off, and the peeling keeps spreading with no way to stop it. The condition is so bad it’s painful to look at.

I asked the dealer to repaint the peeled areas, but they said, “We can’t repaint just part of it. The whole car has to be repainted. It will cost one million yen.” That’s an outrageous price.

Countless cars are driving around town, and none of them have peeling paint. Why is mine the only defective one? Is this some kind of misfortune dropped from the heavens?

Given the situation, Toyota is irresponsible, too. Only a few years after buying the car, the paint is already peeling. How could Toyota, the giant of the auto industry, put such a defective car on the market? What on earth is going on!
