鳥獣戯画の模写
わたしはこのところ、葛飾北斎の娘・応為の小説を書いているが、日本画のことが分からず、調べているうちにいろいろな日本画の道具類に遭遇した。例えば、砂子、面相筆、膠水、礬水、砂子筒、金箔、箔箸、胡粉、梅皿など。
たまたま、朝日カルチャーセンターで、「鳥獣戯画絵巻の模写」講座があることを知った。宣伝文にはこう書いてあった。「鳥獣戯画絵巻の模写で日本画の歴史を体感しましょう！好きな場面をミニ色紙に描き、砂子（金箔）を蒔いて色紙台に飾り仕上げます」
日本画の最初の第一歩としてうってつけの講座である。早速申し込み、２８日に受講してきた。
鳥獣戯画の兎と猿の絵を墨筆で描くうちに、日本画で分からなかったことが分かり、楽しく受講できた。

中学生刺殺事件
１１月２４日、愛知県の弥富で１４歳の生徒が別の生徒を刺殺した。この事件で、私は高校の教師であった４０歳前後（約３８年前）のことを思い出した。
ある日の朝、私が受け持っている生徒の母親から電話があった。
「松岡先生、ご面倒をおかけして申し訳ございませんが、息子Aがナイフを持って学校へ行きました。人を傷つけやしないかと心配です。先生、どうかナイフを取り上げてください」
私は驚いた。Ｈ君はいわゆる「ワル」の生徒である。私は一時間目の放課、A君を呼んで「お母さんから電話があってな、おまえ、ナイフを持っているそうじゃないか。危ないから渡しなさい」と言った。
彼は「持ってない」と言い張ったので、「じゃあ、持ち物を改めさせてもらうよ」と言って、彼に近づくと、突然、「何するんや！」と大きな声をあげて、私の胸をドンと突き離し、教室に戻っていってしまった。
私はどうしていいかわからなくなった。A君はいつなんどき、クラスメイトを傷つけるかもしれない。どうしたら事を収めることができるか、考えに考えた。
いいことを思いつき、次の放課にA君の友達のB君を呼んで、事の次第を話し、ナイフを取り上げてくれと頼むと、「分かりました。やってみます」と言った。
昼休みになってやっとB君が来て、ナイフを渡してくれた。K君にありがとうと心より礼を言った。
ホッとした！
直接法がだめなら間接法だ。
A Stubbing murder by a High School Boy
A 14-year-old student stabbed to death another student at a junior high school in Aichi Prefecture on Nov. 24.
This reminds me of the experience I had when I was around 40 years old. I was at that time a seniro high school teacher.
One morning one of my home-room class students' mother called me, saying, "Mr. M, I am sorry to trouble you, but my son, A ,has taken a knife to school this morinig. I am very much concerned. Please take it from him."
I was shocked. A-kun was cosidered to be one of the bad boys. After the first period, I said to him, "Your mother just called and told me that you have a knife. It is dangerous. So, give it to me."
He told me that he did not possess it. "Is that right? May I search your clothes?"
I approached him to inspect his belongings. Suddenly he pushed my bosom hard, shouting, "What are you gonna do with me!" And he left me.
I was at a loss. I did not know what to do. A-kun might harm one of his classmates at any time. I thought and thought how to solve the problem. A good idea came to me. During the next recess, I called A's close friend, K-kun and told him everything. He said, "I understand. I will try."
It was not until the luch time that K-kun came to me and handed the knife to me. I thanked him very much.
How relieved I was!
Where a direct method fails, there is always an indirect one.
