ハムレットの原典
私はYWCAで「シェクスピアを読む」という英語講座を受講しているが、先日英国人講師から、興味深い話を聞いた。シェクスピアの「ハムレット」は彼の創作ではなく、その原典がエジプトにあったという。
古代エジプトのオシリス（ハムレットの父）はセット（ハムレットの叔父・クラウディウス）に暗殺される。セットは父の妻のイシス（ガートルード）と結婚する。父を暗殺したのはセットであることを知ったホラス（ハムレット）は父の仇・セットを殺す。
『ハムレット』の話はハムレット伝説といわれる デンマークの伝説が元になっているそうだが、元はと言えば古代エジプトの話なのだ。
