 最後の「無為の会」　

 7月28日、最後の「無為の会」を名古屋の開いた。「無為の会」とは1961年に南山大学に入学し、ISA (International Student Association 国際学生協会）に入部した部員の同窓会名である。61年の入学であるから「無為」と名付けた。

1965年に大学を卒業したとき、会員は2２人であった。この60年間、会を毎年、名古屋と東京で交互に開催してきた（コロナ禍の3年は除く）。この間に3人亡くなった。従って、会員数は1９人であったが、28日の会では4人欠席し、1５人集まった。

最後になったのは、会員が80歳を超えたからである。60年前の若々しい顔立ちはなかったが、皆それぞれ、声も、性格も、容姿も昔と変わらず元気であった。

4人の欠席者は、夫の面倒を見るため、肺気腫を病んでいるため、体調不良のためなどであった。出席者の中には、補聴器を付けている者、頭がピカピカに禿げあがっている者、杖を突いている者、腰が曲がっている者、妻または夫をなくした者、様々であった。

私は今のところ、耳は聞こえるし、妻は居るし、頭は禿げていなく、腰も曲がっていない。まあ、それなりに元気にやっている。しかし、いつなんどき、どうなるやら分からない。19人の仲間で、誰が一番早く死ぬか、誰が一番長生きするか。誰も分からない。

恐ろしいことだ。

The last Mui-no-kai (alumni reunion)

The last Muinokai(alumni reunion) was held in Naoya on July 28. Muinokai is the name of the students who entered Nanzan University in 1961 and at the same time, were the members of the International Student Association of Japan. Since we entered it in 61 or ‘mu’ (six in Japanese) , and ‘i’ (one), we named the alumni ‘mu-i.’

There were 22 members in 1965 when we graduated from university. Since 1965, the reunion has been held every year for 60 years in Nagoya and Tokyo alternately except for these three years due to Corona virus pandemic.

Unfortunately, three members deceased during the six decades. Therefore, there are 19 members at present. Four were absent. So, 15 members got together.

 The reasons for their absence were: to take care of the spouse; to be suffering from lung emphysema; and sickness.

 We held the reunion meeting because we became 80 or more than 80 years old. Of course, every one looked as old as above 80, but they had the same voice, same character, and same attitude as before. Each member was full of vitality. Some of us, however, wore a hearing aid, had bold head as bright as the sun, used a walking stick, stooped with old age. Some had lost their spouses.

I myself can hear, have a healthy spouse. My head is not bold, and I am not stooped. I should say I am healthy.

But you can’t tell what will happen at any moment. Nobody knows who will die first and who will live the longest.

How awful!
