『自由への長い道』 ”Long Walk for Freedom ”

「自由への長い道」 

　三年かかってネルソン・マンデラ著『自由への長い道』（英文）を読んできた。あと三ページで読破となる。

印象深い言葉は以下の通り。（ 620と 623ページ）

私は、あらゆる機会を捉えて訴え続けてきた。即ち、全ての南アフリカ人は団結し、手を取り合い、我々は一つの国家、一つの民族、一つの国民として未来に進まなければならない。

 我が国は資源や宝石が豊富である。しかし、常に確信していたのは、最大の富は我が国民で、彼らは純粋なダイアモンドより美しく本物である。

 勇敢な人は恐れない人ではない、恐れに打ち克つ人だ。

 常に確信していたのは、どの人間の心にも、慈悲と寛大があるということだ。

 追加

　……私はここで立止まらない。私の長い道のりはまだ終わっていないから。

”Long Walk for Freedom”

     I have been reading “Long Walk for Freedom” an autobiography written by Nelson Mandela for the past three years. I have almost finished reading it with only 3 pages left.

Here are some of the impressive words he wrote in pages 620 and 623.

 At any opportunity, I said all South Africans must now unite and join hands and say we are one country, one nation, one people, marching together into the future.

 My country is rich in the minerals and gems that lie beneath its soil, but I have always known that its greatest wealth is its people, finer and truer that the purest diamonds.

 The brave man is not he who does not afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

 I always knew that deep down in every human heart, there is mercy and generosity.

..., and I do not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended. (p. 625 the last sentence of the book)
