When I got on an elevator at YWCA in Sakae, a middle-aged man in a suit politely asked me which floor I was going, I said, “4th floor.” I knew he was also going to get off at the same floor, because the 4th floor lump was on when I got in. When it reached the 4th floor and the door opened, he let me go out first. I said, “Thank you,” to which he responded, “Not at all.” I had rarely heard a person say, “Not at all” or “You’re welcome,” on such an occasion, I thought he was a very polite, good-natured man.
