　３月３０日、山崎川の満開の桜を見に行きました。６００本の桜が植えられているそうです。見事な咲きぶりに息を飲むほどで、花もたわわの枝が川面に触れるぐらいに垂れ下がっているのです。

　残念なことに、護岸工事のためたくさんの枝が切られていました。枝を切られた桜を見ていると、まるで自分の腕が切り落とされたように感じました。コンクリートで固めた堤と不具にされた桜のせいで、自然の美しさは損なわれ、心が痛みました。

　　I walked along the Yamazaki River looking at the cherry blossoms in full bloom on March 30. They say about 600 cherry trees stand on both sides of the river. The breathtaking beautiful scenery overwhelmed me. Some of the branches loaded with blossoms hung over the river so low that they almost touched its surface.

　　However, to my disappointment, I found a lot of tree branches chopped off for  the sake of the bank protection construction. Looking at the poor trees, I felt as if my arms had been cut off. The concrete banks and the mutilated trees ruined the natural beauty and my heart ached.
　　Isn’t there any other way to protect the banks without cutting the branches?
