　　３回目のサイレン

アラワイ通り
ハワイのホテル
一枚ガラスの窓通し
車の騒音
丸聞こえ

真夜中に
かすかに聞こえる
パトカーのサイレン
だんだん、だんだん
ホテルに近づく

ピーポーピーポー
ホテルまで５０メートル
わたしの部屋へ接近す
２０メートル、１０メートル
わたしのベッドに接近す

ビー！ボー！ビー！ボー！
耳をつんざく大騒音
耳に入って
鼓膜を破り
血をたらす

急にサイレン小さくなり
パトカーしだいに去っていく
耳、ベッド、部屋、ホテルから
サイレン遠のき、闇に消え
もとの静けさ

でも３０分後
目が覚める
またサイレンが
遠くに聞こえる
これで今夜、３回目


　　　THIRD SIREN

I am staying at a hotel in Hawaii
it stands on Ala Wai Boulevard
the sliding doors are not double-paned
they are made of thin glass
letting traffic noise penetrate

in the middle of the night
I hear a faint police siren
in the far distance
the noise becomes louder and louder
it is approaching my hotel

now the police car is 50 meters away
it is approaching my room
wailing, wailing, wailing
now 20 meters away, now 10 meters
It is approaching my bed

now the loudest and noisiest
it has reached my ear
the noise is entering my ear
breaking my eardrum
blood from my ear

suddenly the noise drops
leaves my ear, bed, room, and hotel
the siren is far away
disappears in the night
peace at last

but 30 minutes later
my eyes open
I hear a siren again
in the far distance,
the third siren tonight
