ともにチケットを取るのに難儀した。

２年ほど前のある日、辻井さんの演奏会のチケット購入の電話受け付けが午前１０から始まった。早いもん勝ちである。私は１０時きっかりに電話したが、話し中で、また電話するが、また話し中。その後、何度かけても「ただ今電話が込み合っています。しばらく後からかけ直してください」という声が聞こえるだけ。それから、根気よく２０分ぐらい何度もかけたが、繋がらなかった。とうとう諦めて、コンサートはまたの機会にした。

２４日、新型コロナワクチンの接種予約の電話受付が近くの病院で午後２時から始まった。１４：００きっかりに電話したが、すでに話し中であった。やられた。それから何度もかけ直した。辻井さんのこともある。根気よくかけていると１４：１３分にやっとつながった。早い方かもしれないと思った。

電話予約の熾烈な競争に打ち勝つ方法を知りたい。

   About two years ago the telephone reservation for Tsujii’s concert started at 10:00 in the morning. First come, first served. I called just at 10:00, but the line was busy. I called again, but again it was busy. After that I called and called and called, but the line was always busy. I continued to call for 20 minutes, but the line was busy. At last I gave up. I thought I would go to another concert of his some other day.

   At 2:00 on the afternoon of May 24, the telephone reservation for the new corona virus vaccination started at my neighboring hospital. I called at just 2:00, but the line was busy. Damn it! Suddenly I was seized by the same irritation I felt when I tried to get a ticket for Tsujii’s concert. I again persistently called. At 2:13, I got through to a stuff member of the hospital. I thought I was lucky.

   I want to know how to win telephone reservation competitions.

 金鯱なしの名古屋城

　五月三日、久しぶりに名古屋城へ行った。城内に入り、城を望むといつも見慣れていた金鯱が天守閣大屋根の上になかった。違和感を覚えた。いつも見慣れている物がそこにないとおかしな気持ちになる。

　金鯱は長さと高さが３メートルぐらいあり、文字通り鯱の表面は金でできている。江戸時代に大凧に体を縛り付けて、嵐の晩に金の鱗を盗もうとした悪党がいた。

　さて、いま金鯱はどこに行ったのか。名古屋の繁華街、栄の広場に展示してある。名古屋市民のみならず、金鯱を見に来た人から見物料として５００円取っている。私は目の前で金鯱を見たことがないので見たいと思ったが、５００円も払って見る気がしなかった。なぜ名古屋市は金鯱を見るのに５００円も取るのだろうか。

　金鯱で金もうけをしようとするど根性が気に食わない。きっと金鯱も怒っていることだろう。

Nagoya Castle without the Golden Dolphins

   I went to Nagoya Castle after a long absence. Entering the castle ground, I saw the castle, which I had often seen before, but I felt strange because I failed to see the pair of the golden dolphins on the roof of the castle tower which I was accustomed to seeing. You feel awkward when you cannot see what you always see.

   Each of the golden dolphins are 3 meters long and 3 meters high. The whole body is golden leafed. During a stormy night in the Edo era, a thief tied himself to a giant kite, flew to the top of the donjon, and stole some of the golden scales.

   Where are the golden dolphins now? They are exhibited in a square in Sakae, a busy district in Nagoya. You have to pay no less than 500 yen to see the exhibition.

When I went to Sakae the other day, I wanted to see the dolphins, but I didn’t feel like seeing them I had to pay so much money. Why does Nagoya City charge a 500 yen admission fee?

   I don’t like the spirit of gaining profit by using the golden dolphins. I am sure they are angry at the commercialism.
