写真のように、鉛筆をとても小さくなるまで使うことができるようになった。方法は日本の鉛筆をセロテープで二本先端を巻けばいい。

鉛筆削り器は、鉛筆が短すぎると、鉛筆削り器の穴の中に入ってしまって、取っ手をぐるぐる回しても、手ごたえがない。しかし、二本をつなぎ合わせると、短い鉛筆でもきれいに削れる。

削った鉛筆を鉛筆延長器にいれ、しっかり固定すれば、きちんと描くことができる。但し鉛筆延長器は従来の金属製（ジュラルミン？）製でなく、写真のようなプラスチック製がいい。

子供のころ、私の兄が「短くなった鉛筆を捨ててしまうけど、鉛筆の芯がもったいないから、鉛筆の芯は途中まで入れておいて、上のほうは空洞にしておくか、木のままにしておけばいい」と言ったが、おそらく鉛筆を作るとき、穴の開いた鉛筆に、長い芯を入れ込んで、２０センチぐらいの等間隔に切断しているのだろう。芯はどうしても入ってしまうから、つなぎ合わせるのが資源の無駄も減るからベストだと思う。

A Pencil Extender

   As you see in the picture, I can use a very short pencil, as short as  2.3 centimeters. How? The method is simple. You just put two short pencils together with scotch-tape.

   Even if you turn the handle of your pencil sharpener, you cannot sharpen too short a pencil, because it is stuck up in the sharpener’s hole. In this case, why not put the two short pencils together? If two pencils are put together and made into a long pencil, long enough for the pencil sharpener, the sharpener works well.

   Put your sharpened pencil in the pencil extender and fasten it tight, and you can write smoothly. A plastic extender is better than an aluminum one, because the former can fasten the pencil more tightly. (See the picture)

「オトウサンの木」がウェブサイトに掲載された。劇団の方がとても上手に朗読しているので、文章が一語一語いき、命を吹き込まれたように響いた。書かれた言葉は死んでいるが、朗読によって生きるということがわかった。文字を書くときには音声が貼りついていることを考えながら書くべしと思った。

   ”My Father's Tree" has recently been uploaded. Since a professional actor read it aloud very skillfully, every word of the story was given life. Written words are dead, but they revive when read aloud. When you write words, they are inevitably attatched to their sounds. You must remember this when you write.
