冷や汗の出る夢
先日、友達に会った。数年前に英語の教師を引退した女性である。彼女曰く、「時々怖い夢を見るのよ。下調べがしてないのに英語を教えなくてはならない夢なの」勿論、如何なるベテラン教師でも充分な準備があってこそ授業が成立する。しかしながら、彼女は下調べなしで授業をしなくてはならないのだ。夢の中で彼女は何をどう教えるか分からないまま無理矢理に教室に行かされて、教室に入ろうとする。その瞬間、目が覚めるのだ。
彼女の話を聞いて、私も同じような夢を見ると言った。「時々、数学を教えなければならならない夢を見るんだよ」 だいたい私は数学が大の苦手で、高校時代、数学の授業は苦痛でしかなかった。ともかく、夢の中で数学を教える羽目になる。何をどのように教えるか困ったまま、教室のドアを開けると、目が覚める。
彼女も私も、教師の仕事を引退したというのに、なぜこんな冷や汗が出るよう夢を見るのだろう
A DREADFUL DREAM
The other day I met one of my friends. She had retired from teaching English several years before. She said, “I sometimes dream a horrible dream where I have to teach an English lesson without any preparation.” Obviously even a skillful teacher can’t teach well without enough preparation. However, she had to teach without it. In her dream she was forced to go to the classroom wondering what or how to teach. When she is about to enter the classroom, she wakes up.
Listening to her dream, I told her about my dream that was similar to hers. I said, “Once in a while I dream a dream where I have to teach mathematics to my students.” I am not good at math at all. I felt pain during the math class in my high school days. Anyway, I have to teach math in the dream. I wonder what or how to teach math. I am under extreme pressure when I open the door of the classroom, when I wake up.
Why do she and I, both retired teachers, have to dream such a dreadful dream?
